Wellington Silva has swapped Arsenal for Fluminense, returning to his homeland on a four-year contract.

The Brazilian forward, who saw work permit issues scupper his chances of making an impact with the Gunners, has taken the number 11 shirt at the Brazilian side.

He started his career at Fluminense before being spotted by Arsenal scouts and subsequently snapped up by the Premier League giants in 2010.

And the 23-year-old is now delighted to be back where it all began, although he is already nervous at the prospect of turning out for his former club.

"I am very happy", he told his new club's official site.

"I want to thank Fluminense for this opportunity and that I could come back after so long away. I am eager to start. I am very nervous, really like it is the first time."

Arsenal sent Silva out on a series of loan moves following his arrival at the Emirates Stadium.

The forward had stints with Levante, Alcoyano, Ponferradina, Murcia, Almeria and Bolton Wanderers.

Silva will now be bidding to live up to the potential identified by Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger in 2010 by kicking on with his career back in the familiar environment of Fluminense.
