Augsburg defender Ragnar Klavan is still booked in for a medical with Liverpool today, despite missing training with a back problem on Monday.

Liverpool have reached an agreement with Augsburg for the 30-year-old defender for a fee of around £4.2m, and Klavan is expected to finalise the switch at some point later this week.

The defender is booked in for a medical with Liverpool later today, but according to Bild he missed training yesterday because of a back issue.

However, despite the slight issue, the defender will undergo a medical with the Reds today, and Liverpool are not expecting any hurdles towards completing Klavan’s switch to Anfield this summer.

The 30-year-old defender is expected to add much needed experience and cover for the Liverpool back four once the club take the deal over the line in the next few hours or days.

Klavan, who have earned more than 100 caps for Estonia, joined Augsburg from Dutch Eredivisie side AZ Alkmaar in 2012.

Liverpool have already signed a centre-back in the form of Joel Matip this summer, and Klavan’s addition will further fortify Jurgen Klopp’s defensive resources for next season.
