Arsenal have cooled their interest in Juventus target Gonzalo Higuain after Napoli rejected their player plus cash deal for the striker.

While there has been a lot of noise over the last few days about Juventus’ interest in Higuain, Arsenal have also been keeping a close watch on proceedings at the San Paolo.

The Gunners are interested in the signing the Argentine hitman this summer, but it seems the Premier League giants are slowly backing off from the chase after Napoli rejected an offer.

According to Sky Italia, the Serie A giants have knocked back Arsenal’s €60m plus Olivier Giroud offer for Higuain, following which Arsene Wenger has cooled his interest in the 28-year-old forward.

Napoli have made it clear that Higuain’s suitors will have to meet his €94.7m release clause if they have to snare the striker away from the San Paolo this summer.

Arsenal are said to be uninterested in paying such a figure for the striker, and are not expected to return to the negotiating table with a fresh offer at the present time.

While Juventus have also said that they won’t be paying Higuain’s release clause, there have been suggestions that Paul Pogba’s proposed world record move to Manchester United could provide the Italian champions with the financial muscle to try their luck with the Argentine.
