Rangers manager Mark Warburton was pleased with the performances of his new signings against Annan Athletic last night.

The Scottish giants scored a comfortable 2-0 win over Annan Athletic in a Scottish League Cup game last night at Ibrox to further improve their standings in the group stage of the competition.

With just a little more than fortnight to go before the Scottish Premiership season starts, Warburton is keen to see most of his squad get a chance to impress, and he was particularly pleased with the performance of his new signings against Annan.

Joey Barton made his debut in a cameo last night and even fresh faces such as Niko Kranjcar, Clint Hill, Matt Gilks and Lee Hodson got their opportunity to don the Rangers jersey.

Warburton admits that his new boys did enough on the pitch to impress him ahead of the Premiership season.

“It’s good to get the new boys in too”, Warburton told Rangers TV.

“Some are behind the curve in terms of training time, but looking at them – Niko was very, very good, Clint Hill was solid, Matt Gilks had to concentrate for 90 minutes, Lee Hodson came in and did very, very well and all over the park there were some very pleasing performances.

“We got Joey on the pitch too, but for Friday we will change the team again, and the same for Monday so by the time we come to the Burnley game all of the team have had the appropriate loading.”

Rangers will next face East Stirlingshire in another Scottish League Cup game this Friday night.
