Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren has stressed the importance of the club's United States tough as they brace themselves for their first game of the season against Arsenal.

The Reds left for their tour earlier today, where they will take part in the International Champions Cup besides also playing a friendly against Roma on 1st August.

The tour will be important for Lovren and his team-mates, who will have a matter of weeks to prepare before the kick-off of their domestic season.

The team, according to Lovren, are tired after being put through the mill by Jurgen Klopp and the recent Bill Shankly Trophy match against Huddersfield Town. However, that will be no excuse when they begin their campaign on 14th August, he feels.

Putting a lot of effort in training will also be important as the goal will be to start off with a win in their first match of the season against Arsenal, the defender insists.

“It’s a tough time for us, the legs are tired but it’s good for us", Lovren told his club's official website prior to departure.

"So we are now looking forward to going to America and playing some tough games out there, so we will see where we are.

“We have less than a month before our first game [against Arsenal] so we have a lot of time to train hard – we are ready for that.”
