James Tavernier has ended speculation about his future by putting pen to paper on a new contract with Scottish giants Rangers.

The right-back's new deal ensures he will remain at Ibrox until the summer of 2019, handing Rangers a boost heading into their Premiership campaign in the new season.

The 24-year-old joined the Gers last summer from Wigan Athletic and quickly hammered down the right-back slot at Ibrox.

Tavernier was not shy to get forward last term and scored 15 goals in 50 appearances in all competitions as Rangers won the Scottish Championship title and reached the final of the Scottish Cup.

The defender also picked up the Scottish Challenge Cup, scoring in the final for his side in their rout of Peterhead at Hampden Park.

Tavernier had been linked with a potential move away from Rangers, but by penning the new contract has crushed talk of a transfer away from Mark Warburton's men.

The defender has already got amongst the goals this season and struck against Motherwell in the Scottish League Cup last weekend.
