Argentina want to speak to Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino and Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone over the vacant national team job, according to news agency Reuters.

The South American giants are looking for a new coach with real urgency as they have important games looming on the horizon. Argentina meet Uruguay and Venezuela in 2018 World Cup qualifying as soon as September.

Gerardo Martino resigned from his job last month, while Lionel Messi's international retirement has left the country reeling still further.

Argentina FA official Armando Perez, who heads up the Regularisation Committee, is due to fly to Europe next month to speak personally with Pochettino and Simeone about how the country moves forward.

Perez will also talk to Sevilla coach Jorge Sampaoli, as he steps up his hunt to fill Martino's shoes.

On the surface, Simeone and Sampaoli are being spoken to by Perez over the future of the national team, but the pair have admitted wanting to coach Argentina in the future.

Pochettino meanwhile will not receive a personal visit from Perez, but the official will contact him when he is in Spain.

Talks will also take place with Messi, as Perez tries to convince the Barcelona star to reverse his decision to retire from international duty.

Argentina vice-captain Javier Mascherano will also be spoken to by Perez.
