Leeds United are refusing to meet Sunderland's asking price for Liam Bridcutt, while Aston Villa are also in for the midfielder.

Bridcutt was on loan at Leeds last season and made an impression as a defensive midfield shield at Elland Road, putting himself front and centre of the group of players the Whites wanted to snap up this summer.

But despite Bridcutt having just a year left on his Sunderland contract and the new Championship season set to start in two weeks, no deal for the midfielder to go to Elland Road has been done.

And according to Radio Yorkshire, Leeds currently view Sunderland's asking price as being too high.

The Whites also have company in their interest in Bridcutt as Aston Villa are keen, something which could throw a further spanner in the works.

While Leeds have signed six players so far this summer, they have only paid fees for two, splashing out £5m to sign Kemar Roofe and Marcus Antonsson.

They have however pocketed between £6m and £10m from selling Lewis Cook to Bournemouth.
