Manchester United are set to barge into negotiations and go toe-to-toe with Manchester City for Palmeiras forward Gabriel Jesus’ signature.

A product of the Palmeiras academy, the young Brazilian forward has been garnering attention in South American football with his performances for his boyhood club.

He has already represented Brazil in youth football and has been called up to the squad that will take part in the Olympics, which will start in Rio next month.

A number of top European clubs are after his signature, but it has been claimed that Manchester City are ahead in the chase and are ready to offer €32m to Palmeiras.

The negotiations are believed to be at an advanced stage, with the player expected to join the club in January next year, but Manchester United have barged into the negotiations to spoil their Mancunian rivals’ well laid-out plans.

According to Brazilian daily Lance, Manchester United have contacted Palmeiras, and have communicated to the club that they are ready to pay €35m for Gabriel’s signature.

The Red Devils have told Palmeiras that they will be sending representatives to Brazil next week as soon as they get a deal over the line for Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba.

Pep Guardiola has already spoken with the 19-year-old midfielder to convince him to move to the Etihad, but it has been suggested that Jose Mourinho is ready to call Gabriel if necessary to tilt the scales towards Manchester United’s favour.

The forward is not yet aware of Manchester United’s interest, but the Red Devils are confident of beating Manchester City to his signature this summer.
