Josh Windass admits that his first competitive goal for Rangers on Friday night was more luck than natural instincts.

The 22-year-old joined Rangers on a free transfer from Accrington Stanley this summer, and despite a few opportunities he failed to score against Annan Athletic in their 2-0 win last Tuesday.

However, the forward scored his first goal for the club on Friday night when he netted Rangers’ second in a 3-0 win over East Stirlingshire in a Scottish League Cup game.

Windass has conceded that he has missed a few golden opportunities to score thus far at Rangers, and also added that his first goal for the club was more being in the right place at the right time than a striker’s instincts.

The striker told the club’s official website: “I have waited a few games and I probably should have scored a few at Ibrox against Annan because I missed a few chances.

“It came and I probably should have scored another before it but it was nice to score eventually, it has been a long time coming.

“I had no idea the ball was there, Kenny [Miller] shouted to me ‘Josh the ball is there’ and I had a look about and luckily it was there.

“It was probably the easier goal I’ve ever scored. No natural instinct just luck!”

Rangers’ League Cup campaign continues when they play Stranraer at Ibrox on Monday night, and Windass will be hoping to score a few more before the Premiership season starts.
