Liam Bridcutt's representatives are still optimistic that their client will be able to join Leeds United this summer.

The defensive midfielder spent the majority of last season on loan at Elland Road after falling out of favour at Sunderland.

He earned plaudits for his performances in a white shirt and Leeds want to welcome him back on a permanent deal this summer, though there is also interest from Aston Villa in Bridcutt.

At present Sunderland are not willing to let Bridcutt go for less than £1.5m, a fee Leeds are unwilling to pay, while there is also concern about the cost of the Scotland international's wages.

But in a boost for Leeds, especially with Aston Villa's interest, Bridcutt wants to return to Elland Road, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.
