Chelsea have been linked with a summer swoop for Lazio goalkeeper Federico Marchetti as they search for a new understudy for Thibaut Courtois.

Marchetti signed a new two-year contract with Lazio in January, but the Roman club are keen to sell the player during the summer transfer window as part of a clear out.

While they value the player at around €10m, it has been suggested that the club would allow the goalkeeper to leave the Stadio Olimpico this summer if someone comes up with an offer of around €6m to €7m.

Liverpool recently probed the possibility of signing the Italian, and even Juventus are interested, but the latest club to be linked with a move for Marchetti are Chelsea.

Chelsea have been linked with selling Asmir Begovic and have been in talks with AC Milan for the signature of Diego Lopez as the Bosnian’s replacement at the club.

However, according to Italian outlet La Lazio Siamonoi, the Blues could change track and make a move for Marchetti soon as the Lazio goalkeeper could be a cheaper option than the AC Milan custodian.

Marchetti joined Lazio in 2011 from Cagliari, and has made 176 appearances for the club over the last five years.
