A move to Leeds United has been ruled out by the agent of Hamburg midfielder Albin Ekdal, who says his client would not drop down to the Championship.

Leeds have been linked with having a deal done to sign a midfielder within the next 24 hours and the Whites have been mooted as being keen on a player turning out in the Bundesliga.

Supremo Massimo Cellino has been locked in talks with agents and it was claimed that Ekdal, who he knows well from the midfielder's stint at Cagliari between 2011 and 2015, could be the man to head to Elland Road.

But the man who cost Hamburg a fee of €4.5m and signed a four-year deal only last year, is not interested in the heavy slog of England's second tier.

His agent was quoted as saying by the Yorkshire Evening Post: "He would not play in the Championship."

Ekdal was plucked from his native Sweden by Italian champions Juventus in 2008 and spent time with Siena before joining Bologna.

He signed for Cagliari in 2015 and following the club's relegation from Serie A, headed to the Bundesliga with Hamburg.

The 26-year-old was in action at Euro 2016 earlier this summer with Sweden.
