Claims on social media that Leeds United could be set for a takeover have been dismissed.

Rumours have been circulating suggesting that a buy-out of the Whites is being eyed, something which will have been music to the ears of a number of Leeds fans who want to see the back of current owner Massimo Cellino and his minority partners GFH Capital.

But there is no truth to the claims, according to Radio Yorkshire, with suggestions of an imminent takeover being branded "social media rubbish".

Cellino bought a majority shareholding in Leeds in 2014 and quickly lived up to his reputation as an owner who often sacks managers.

In a little over two years the former Cagliari owner has worked his way through Brian McDermott, David Hockaday, Darko Milanic, Neil Redfearn, Uwe Rosler and Steve Evans.

He is now on his seventh head coach in the shape of former Swansea City manager Garry Monk.

The pressure is on Monk to make a good start to the new season, with Cellino often pulling the trigger early on during campaigns.

Hockaday bit the bullet in August at the start of the 2014/15 season, while Rosler lasted longer, reaching October in the 2015/16 campaign.
