Leeds United CEO Ben Mansford has raised the prospect of Fabian Delph returning to Elland Road – but only at the end of his career.

The England midfielder came through the ranks at Leeds and played senior side football for the club from 2006 until 2009, at which point he was sold to Aston Villa.

Delph has continued to kick on and put pen to paper on a five-year contract with Manchester City last summer, after the Citizens snapped him up for just £8m.

Mansford had dealings with Delph during his time as an agent and the midfielder was quick to congratulate him on his new post as CEO at Elland Road.

And in communications between the two, Delph suggested he could head back to Leeds at the end of his career.

"Fabian promised he might come back to us free of charge at around 35 years of age, but if we can nick him back earlier I'll try", Mansford said on BBC Radio Leeds.

Despite having been in the Premier League for seven years, Delph has just one trophy to show for his efforts, having helped Manchester City to the League Cup last season.

Leeds meanwhile are continuing to toil in the Championship.
