Leeds United summer signing Robert Green admits that he has joined the club to play regular football and be part of something exciting at Elland Road.

The former England goalkeeper joined Leeds on a free transfer this summer after Queens Park Rangers released him at the end of the 2015/16 season.

Green started last season as the first choice at Loftus Road, but has not played any football since January, and he admits that he is looking forward to getting back on the pitch for Leeds.

The Whites already have Bailey Peacock-Farrell and Ross Turnbull in their ranks and it seems there is an opportunity for Marco Silvestri to revive his career at Elland Road.

However, Green insisted that he has not joined Leeds to warm the bench, and wants to play a key role in building something exciting with the Yorkshire giants next season.

He told the Yorkshire Evening Post: “I’m looking forward to getting out on the pitch. It’s been a while.

“I’ve not come here not to play. I want to play and I want to play as many games as I can.

"I want to look back one day and say that I had 10 great years at Norwich, six great years at West Ham, four great years at QPR and X-amount of great years at Leeds.

“I want this to be up there with all of that in terms of longevity and success.

"It’s not like I’m here to sit back, relax and chill.

“I could have done that by staying in London, sat on the bench somewhere, but I’ve come here to be part of something – something exciting.”

Green represented England 12 times and has 267 appearances under his belt in the Premier League.
