Garry Monk is running the rule over an experienced Italian defender during Leeds United Under-21s' friendly fixture against Farsley Celtic this evening.

The player in question is 32-year-old Italian full-back Gabriele Perico, who is a free agent following his departure from Cesena.

Leeds are hunting for a new full-back and Monk has looked at several potential additions, though none have yet won him over.

And Perico will try, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post, as he is set to play some part this evening at Farsley Celtic.

Perico, who represented Italy up to Under-20 level, has not been named in the team for the friendly fixture and appears to be on the bench, something which will restrict his chance to impress Monk.

The defender is well known to Leeds supremo Massimo Cellino, as he had a spell at Cellino's former club Cagliari from 2010 until 2014.

Perico started his career with Atalanta, but made his senior breakthrough at Prato, before then moving to AlbinoLeffe.
