Former QPR striker Bradley Allen is not sure whether West Ham United overachieved last season following their Europa League defeat to NK Domzale this evening, while he also questioned whether the club's fans want the side in the competition's group stage.

The Hammers lost 2-1 in the first leg of their third qualifying round tie in Slovenia, conceding after just eleven minutes from the penalty spot.

They did equalise, also from the spot, through Mark Noble in the 18th minute, but another Domzale goal in the 49th minute saw the game end 2-1 to the hosts, giving West Ham a job to do back in England.

Slaven Bilic's men were on the back foot for large portions of the game, a far cry from the form which saw them finish seventh in the Premier League last season and Allen is not sure whether they overachieved.

He also questioned whether the club's fans want the Hammers in the group stage of the competition.

"NK Domzale could have further extended their lead, they were deserved winners. They looked fitter than West Ham, as you'd expect. They are further into their season", Allen said on BBC Radio London.

"West Ham didn't create anything in the second half. They can recover and I'd expect them to be much improved next week.

"Did West Ham over achieve last season? Do their fans want the group games in the Europa League? I'm not so sure", the former striker added.

West Ham fielded a strong side for the game in Slovenia, treating the competition with the utmost respect.

Bilic will need his men to step on the gas when Domzale head to England for the return leg, but West Ham will only need a 1-0 win to go through thanks to their away goal in Slovenia.
