Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp believes that his side lacked the freshness to get a draw out of their loss to Chelsea last night.

The Reds succumbed to a narrow 1-0 loss in California as Chelsea defender Gary Cahill’s early header handed Antonio Conte’s side an opening win in the International Champions Cup.

Klopp, whose side thought they had scored through Roberto Firmino only to see the Brazilian’s strike deemed offside, said that the Reds lacked freshness, due to which they failed to draw the encounter.

The German was asked what Liverpool needed to do to draw and said via his club's site: “I would say a little bit more freshness, but that’s only with the finishing.

“For the last pass there were two things – a little bit fresher legs would help against a deep formation and the other thing is again more belief in our skills because we are able to play really good football.

“We had a lot of good movements. I saw a lot of really good individual situations and team tactics, really good moments offensively and defensively.

“It was OK, we could have done better, but for the moment I am not dissatisfied. It is OK, not more.”

The game, which saw Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas sent off for a dangerous tackle on new Liverpool signing Ragnar Klavan, was one in which three of Liverpool new signings Klavan, goalkeeper Loris Karius and Sadio Mane, who was acquired from Southampton, featured.

Liverpool open their Premier League campaign on 14th August away to rivals Arsenal, followed by trips to Turf Moor and White Hart Lane.
