Barcelona have not made a bid for striker Ayoze Perez and Newcastle United have no desire to sell the former Tenerife man, it has been claimed.

The Blaugrana are looking to add another striker to their ranks this summer as they aim to increase their squad depth ahead of the forthcoming La Liga season.

They have been linked with making a bid for Perez, who Newcastle snapped up from Tenerife in 2014.

However, according to local newspaper the Chronicle, the Magpies have not fielded a bid from Barcelona for the 22-year-old and have no desire to see him leave this summer.

Perez could be a key man for Rafael Benitez's side in their push to bounce straight back up to the Premier League at the first time of asking in the new season.

However, the Spaniard could well be tempted by Barcelona if they do lodge a bid for his services with the Magpies.

Perez was a regular fixture for the Magpies last season and made a total of 37 appearances across all competitions, scoring six goals.

He is locked down on a contract at St. James' Park until the summer of 2021.
