Leeds United head coach Garry Monk is confident that Stuart Dallas will get up to speed with his ideas and training regime despite joining the squad late this summer.

Dallas played an important role for Leeds on the flanks last season and his performances earned him a slot in the Northern Ireland squad for the European Championship in France.

Due to his involvement in the summer extravaganza, Dallas has joined the Leeds pre-season preparations late after an extended break, and is naturally behind his other team-mates in terms of fitness.

Monk admits that he will have to make sure that Dallas is put through his paces in order to build his fitness, and introduce him to the new regime at Leeds United, in terms of the work they have done over the last few weeks.

He added that the Northern Ireland internaitonal is keen to get going and has so far shown good application in training.

When asked about Dallas and how pre-season is shaping up for the winger, Monk told LUTV: “No, he has not missed too much.

“It’s again, [it’s about] sharpening him up and helping him. I have got the experience of playing with international players when they went for a World Cup.

“You got to have a different programme for them even though you are fitting them into the training we are doing. It’s a mixture of getting them up to speed with the work we have already done, the new ideas that we are putting in place.

“But he is a very intelligent lad, has done very well and is very eager to come back in.”

Dallas will hope to get as fit as possible before Leeds’ first Championship game against Queens Park Rangers a week from Saturday.
