Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has heaped praise on new signings Granit Xhaka and Rob Holding, both of whom he believes have shown signs of encouragement in their very first taste of Gunners action.

The Gunners signed Xhaka from Borussia Monchengladbach in May with the deal being finalised on 1st July once the transfer window opened.

Holding is another player they have managed to secure, the youngster arriving from relegated Championship side Bolton Wanderers for an undisclosed fee.

And now seeing both in action for the first time in the match against an MLS All-Stars team in San Jose, the veteran manager insists that he has seen encouraging signs in both.

Both the players, according to the Frenchman, have adapted to their surroundings well and have shown signs of encouragement.

Wenger, picking Xhaka out for attention, told the club's official site: "He did adjust very well.

"His passing was clean and technically he did well.

"Overall I believe his first game was encouraging."

The Frenchman was also happy with Holding, explaining: "He has adapted surprisingly in a very good way.

"He reads the game well and understands what's going on.

"He anticipates well and that's a quality, at such a young age, that you don't find a lot."

The Gunners are set to begin their domestic campaign against Liverpool on 14th August.
