Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino has expressed his happiness at seeing his young players perform well in spite of a loss against Atletico Madrid on Friday.

The north Londoners were dealt yet another blow as they lost their second consecutive match of the International Champions Cup, losing 1-0 to last season's Champions League finalists Atletico Madrid.

The result, which follows the 2-1 loss to Juventus on Tuesday, will be disappointing for the Lilywhites as it comes just weeks before the start of the new season.

But the Argentine manager is not disappointed with his team's performance as they were livelier in attack during most of the course of the match, though the result didn't favour them.

"It was a fantastic performance and a great experience for us. I am very happy with this young team", Pochettino said to Spurs TV.

Praising the Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak, who he believes was their man of the match, Pochttino said that the fact that they were able to finish with nine academy players shows that his young players are also ready.

"Their goalkeeper was man of the match, which says a lot.

"We finished the game with nine players who have come through the academy – great."
