Leeds United and Massimo Cellino have yet to be contacted by any Chinese consortium despite talk of a £100m takeover for the Championship club.

Steve Tappin, CEO of a consultancy, has claimed to be speaking to investors and putting together a consortium to take control of Leeds, with the lifelong Whites fan viewing the club as an attractive investment given the money available in the Premier League.

Cellino has flirted with selling up when troubles have hit at Elland Road, but the Italian lives and breathes the game and is one of the most hands-on owners in English football.

And neither Cellino, nor Leeds themselves, have fielded any interest from China, according to Radio Yorkshire.

If a takeover bid from China is forthcoming, it would appear to be in the early stages and not imminent.

Tappin for his part has talked up Leeds' potential as a club and believes that brand wise the Whites deserve to be in the same bracket as Barcelona and Manchester United.

But even if a bid does come in, convincing Cellino to sell up may be difficult given his affection for the game.

Prior to owning Leeds, Cellino had control of Cagliari in his native Italy.
