Lionel Messi is expecting Celtic to have fierce fan support in this evening's friendly between Barcelona and the Bhoys in Dublin.

The two clubs are set to collide in an International Champions Cup fixture in the Irish capital, as they both continue to build up to the start of their respective league campaigns.

Messi is well aware of the atmosphere Celtic fans are able to generate and is expecting more of the same today, even though the game is not at Paradise.

And the Argentina international joked that Celtic fans do not know what a friendly is.

"It is always a good atmosphere against Celtic", Messi was quoted as saying by the Bhoys' official site.

"For the players at Barcelona who experienced the games in Europe against them, they will know what to expect from their fans.

"It is only a friendly, but I don’t think their fans know what a friendly is", the Barcelona star continued.

"There are a lot of Celtic fans in Ireland, and I expect them to make a lot of noise and create another special atmosphere."

Celtic may be more match ready than Barcelona as Brendan Rodgers' men have already tasted competitive action this summer in the shape of their Champions League qualifiers, with games played against Lincoln Red Imps and FC Astana.

Barcelona also have International Champions Cup fixtures to come against Leicester City and Liverpool.
