Rangers new boy Josh Windass admits that his niggling hamstring injury has been a source of frustration, but is expecting to return to training next week.

The midfielder picked up the knock after scoring his first goal for the club against East Stirlingshire earlier this month, and has been ruled out for their friendly against Burnley later today at Ibrox.

Windass joined Rangers from Accrington Stanley this summer, and has been impressive during pre-season, but the injury has derailed his preparations ahead of the new season.

The 22-year-old is confident of returning to training after the friendly, but admits that the forced break is frustrating as he feels he was building up some momentum with his performances in the last few games.

And the midfielder is not keen to rush things, which could further aggravate his injury.

Windass told the club’s official website: “I’ve still got a bit of a sore hamstring; I will be back training by Monday hopefully.

“I’ve been doing some work outside with the physios but should be back in full training after the weekend so I’ll miss Burnley.

“It’s frustrating because I thought I was getting a bit of momentum up until half-time against East Stirling when I had to go off but that is football and you get injuries.

"It’s only a small one thank God.

“It’s nothing serious and I came off last Friday as a precaution so I just need to ease my way back in so I don’t cause any more damage.”

Windass will be hoping to regain full fitness in time for Rangers’ first Premiership game of the season against Hamilton next Saturday.
