Leeds United head coach Garry Monk is giving nothing away on whether he will look to sign right-back Gabriele Perico, as he is to continue assessing the experienced defender.

The 32-year-old Italian defender has been on trial at Leeds and played 45 minutes of the Whites' 2-1 friendly win over Atalanta at Elland Road on Saturday, the club's final pre-season test before the Championship campaign kicks off.

Monk has been looking to snap up a right-back this summer, but several options have not completely convinced the former Swansea City manager – and Perico is hoping to succeed where they failed.

But despite Monk being happy with Perico, who is available on a free transfer, he has given nothing away on whether he will look to offer the 32-year-old a contract at the club.

"I used this week to have a good look at him and to see how he performed", Monk told a press conference following the Atalanta friendly.

"I thought he performed well today, albeit 45 minutes.

"But this is what you do as a manager, you can sometimes bring someone in on trial, you can have a look at someone on a TV set, but you do your homework and you make sure you check all options available to you.

"That's what we're doing", Monk explained, before pointing out his assessment of Perico will go on.

"I thought Gabriele had a good week.

"He did very well today, so that will be an ongoing thing."
