Leeds United legend Eddie Gray feels that there are still as many as five places up for grabs in Garry Monk's team for next Sunday's Championship opener away at QPR.

Monk's men played their final pre-season friendly at home against Italian Serie A side Atalanta on Saturday and despite being on the back foot at times, particularly with regards to possession, ground out a 2-1 win to build confidence heading into the trip to Loftus Road.

Gray thinks that about half of Monk's starting eleven against Atalanta are guaranteed to start against QPR, meaning that a whole host of places remain to be cemented before the big kick off.

Asked how many placed are up for grabs on LUTV, Gray replied: "I would realistically think there will be four places up for grabs, maybe five.

"I think that is what Garry and his staff will be working on this week", the Whites legend explained.

"If you get players in, all well and good, but if you don't get players in they will have to sit down and assess what the best starting eleven at QPR on Sunday will be."

Leeds have made six signings so far this summer, but Monk is still looking to make further additions.

Championship clubs have to wrestle this season with no more emergency loan window, meaning they will need to beef up their squads to see them through until the winter window swings open in the new year.

The Whites did have a trialist in action against Atalanta, with experienced Italian full-back Gabriele Perico clocking up 45 minutes.
