Leeds United and Massimo Cellino have yet to receive any contact from a Chinese consortium over a takeover of the club, with suggestions a takeover push could be advanced wide of the mark.

It was claimed on Friday that a £100m takeover of Leeds by a group of Chinese investors could be in the offing, with the consortium also prepared to pump working capital into the Elland Road outfit.

The news was seized upon by some Leeds fans desperate to see current majority owner, Cellino, leave the club following the Italian's controversies and repeated sackings of head coaches since he took control in 2014.

But according to the Yorkshire Evening Post, neither Leeds themselves, nor Cellino, have yet to be contacted by anyone from the mooted Chinese consortium.

And suggestions the Chinese group are advanced with their takeover plans are wide of the mark as a consequence.

Even if Cellino proves to be a willing seller, the Chinese group, who have yet to approach Leeds, may struggle to complete a takeover in time for funds to be made available during the current transfer window.

They may also hit an obstacle in convincing Cellino to sell.

While the Italian has flirted with selling his shareholding over the last 12 months, he continues to be in the thick of running the club, living and breathing football, and has vowed to drive Leeds up to the Premier League.
