West Ham have held talks for the signature of Germany internaitonal striker Mario Gomez from Fiorentina this summer.

Gomez spent last season on loan at Besiktas, but due to the political unrest in Turkey, the striker has decided against extending his stay, and has returned to Fiorentina this summer.

However, the 31-year-old forward might not be staying in Italy for too long as it has been claimed that he has interest from the Premier League.

According to Italian outlet Tutto Mercato, West Ham have held initial talks with the striker’s advisers over a proposed move to east London during the summer transfer window.

West Ham are in the market for a striker, but have failed to attract any of the names they have so far tried to sign and it seems they have turned their eyes towards Gomez.

The 31-year-old was in the Germany squad for the European Championship on the back of a good season in Turkey, and he could be on his way to England in the near future.

And with only a year left on his contract, this summer could be Fiorentina’s only opportunity to earn a fee from his sale as he could leave the club a year later for free.

A former Bayern Munich man, Gomez scored 28 goals last season in all competitions for Besiktas.
