Leeds United head coach Garry Monk has stressed that Ronaldo Vieira still has a lot to learn and do to fulfil his undoubted potential.

The 18-year-old defensive midfielder made his debut for Leeds at the end of last season against Preston North End at Deepdale, just days after signing a professional deal, and under new manager Monk, the youngster has been part of the club’s pre-season preparations.

While it is unclear whether he will be a regular face in the Leeds first team next term, the teenager has certainly garnered attention and praise for his showings during pre-season, especially against Atalanta on Saturday.

However, Monk is not yet ready to give his verdict on Vieira as he feels despite his potential, the midfielder will have to learn a lot more in the near future to make the full use of his talent.

And right now there is a lot more work that needs to be done before hyping up the 18-year-old’s talent.

When asked about Vieira, the Leeds boss said in a press conference: “He has got a lot to learn, and has a long way to go.

“He is one of the number of young players we have here who have good potential, but at this moment of time, it’s [just] potential.

“So all of them guys have a lot more work to do.”

It remains to be seen whether Monk decides to make Vieira the part of the squad when Leeds visit Queens Park Rangers next Sunday to kick off their 2016/17 Championship campaign.
