Leeds United boss Garry Monk has rejected any suggestion that QPR overran his side in midfield at Loftus Road today and says the Whites had the hosts firmly on the back foot on the second half, even though below their best.

Monk saw his men slip behind after just four minutes in the Championship fixture when Nedum Onuoha bundled the ball into the back of the net from a corner kick.

QPR were on top, but had to wait until the awarding of a penalty in the 73rd minute before extending their lead. Ronaldo Vieira fouled Jordan Cousins, allowing Tjaronn Chery to step up and make no mistake, firing past Rob Green.

The R's then put the icing on the cake when Sebastian Polter grabbed a third in injury time.

It was a heavy defeat for Leeds, but Monk rejected any suggestion that his side had been overrun in the middle of the park.

He also claimed Leeds had QPR firmly on the back foot in the second half and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink's men should consider the scoreline flattering.

"No. I don't really agree with that. I don't think they overran us at all", Monk shot back on BBC Radio Leeds when it was put to him his side were overrun in midfield.

"In the first half they were probably a bit more physical than we were. We had to up that.

"I think the first and second balls we lost a lot, but in the second half I thought you saw us on the ascendancy.

"It was them who were on the back foot – and without us being at our best.

"It's very early. Of course we wanted to get a better result than we did today", Monk explained.

"I think three goals flatters them to be honest."

Leeds are aiming for a top six spot in the Championship this season and Monk will be keen for his men to pick up their first points of the season next weekend when they host Birmingham City at Elland Road.
