Watford have been linked with a move for Monaco defender Marcel Tisserand, who has also generated interest from Saint-Etienne.

The DR Congo international was a regular part of the Monaco squad last season, and clocked up 36 appearances for the club across all competitions.

However, it has emerged that Tisserand is not a big part of Monaco’s plans for this season, and coach Leonardo Jardim has agreed to see the defender leave the club this summer.

Saint-Etienne are at the front of the queue for the 23-year-old, and are ready to sign him on an initial loan with a purchase option, but according to French sports daily L’Equipe, they could face competition from the Premier League.

It has been claimed Watford boss Walter Mazzarri has his eye on the Congo international, and the Hornets could join the chase for Tisserand in the next few weeks of the window.

Monaco are expected to consider all offers on the table for the defender, but it has been suggested that the Ligue 1 outfit would prefer to see him leave on a permanent transfer for a fee of around €5m.

Tisserand, who is also attracting interest from German outfit Ingolstadt, has a contract until 2019 with Monaco.
