Rangers manager Mark Warburton insists he did not take Harry Forrester off to protect him during the Gers' 2-1 win away at Dundee, despite admitting another referee might have sent the winger off.

Forrester was booked for a foul on Darren O'Dea, while he then committed two further fouls, on Cammy Kerr and Michael Duffy.

Both fouls could arguably have led to second yellow cards, but referee Craig Thomson opted to keep his book in his pocket and Warburton took Forrester off soon afterwards, replacing him with Michael O'Halloran.

And the Rangers manager says that was always his idea, with no thoughts of taking Forrester off to ensure he was not sent off.

He did admit however that another referee might have shown the Englishman two yellow cards.

"Michael O'Halloran was always coming on for Harry. That was always the plan", Warburton explained to STV.

"Another referee might have given it [another yellow], but I can't comment on that", he added.

Rangers' win over Dundee ensured that the Gers picked up their first three-point haul of the season in the Scottish Premiership; Warburton's men drew their opener at Ibrox with Hamilton.
