Bayern Munich and Germany goalkeeper Manuel Neuer says he simply cannot get his head around Jose Mourinho's treatment of Bastian Schweinsteiger at Manchester United.

Mourinho has frozen Schweinsteiger out at Old Trafford and the veteran German midfielder is now training with the reserves and has had his locker moved to the reserve dressing room.

Schweinsteiger, who signed for Manchester United from Bayern Munich last summer, has no future at the English club and Neuer just cannot understand the treatment of his former team-mate.

Neuer told Welt am Sontag: "I cannot understand this.

"Basti is a super player", the Germany goalkeeper explained, before then talking up Schweinsteiger's experience, which he brings to teams.

"[He is] an important man with a lot of experience, which is very important for the team.

"This decision I just cannot understand."

Schweinsteiger came through the youth ranks at Bayern Munich and won eight Bundesliga titles, seven German Cups and one Champions League, amongst other honours, with the Bavarians.

He has been linked with Paris Saint-Germain, but it remains to be seen where he ends up having had his Manchester United career effectively ended.
