Matt Smith says he was humbled by the reception afforded to him by the Leeds United faithful during Tuesday night's Championship encounter between Fulham and the Whites.

The Fulham number 9 played for Leeds between 2013 and 2014 before being sold to the Cottagers, a move which Whites fans have often bemoaned taking place.

He was back at Elland Road on Tuesday night and played his part as Fulham out-passed Leeds in the first half of the contest, even though they could not score.

Smith and Sone Aluko both hit the post as the visitors dominated, Rob Green being called into action on numerous occasions for Leeds.

And Fulham took the lead 13 minutes from the end as Tom Cairney hit a superb curled shot which beat Green.

But Leeds, who did have chances of their own, fought back and in injury time a Chris Wood overhead kick secured a 1-1 draw for the hosts.

Smith admits he is disappointed Fulham did not take all three points, but he is happy with how Leeds fans welcomed him back to Elland Road.

He wrote on Twitter: "Disappointed going away with just one point tonight! We deserved more.

"Humbling reception at Elland Road. Thanks for that. Safe trip home Fulham fans."
