Aston Villa owner Dr Tony Xia has confirmed that winger Adama Traore has asked to leave the club.

The former Barcelona starlet has been linked with quitting the Villa Park outfit, despite having only joined the side in the summer last year for around £7m from the Catalan giants.

But Traore has had enough of life at Villa and has spoken to the club's manager Roberto Di Matteo to request an exit.

And Xia agrees that a player who wants to leave should be shipped out.

Told by a Villa fan on Twitter to ship him out as there should be no time for players who do not want to be at the club, Xia replied: "Yes.

"He talked to RDM, not happy staying at Villa last season here and want[s] to leave", he added.

Aston Villa are currently in the process of reshaping their squad before the summer transfer window closes as they want to bounce straight back up to the Premier League.

It remains to be seen to where Traore ends up.
