Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has rejected the notion that his club are failing to attract top quality players anymore.

With only Granit Xhaka being their major addition this summer, the Gunners’ transfer policy is back under the scanner and Wenger is coping most of the flak for their failings.

There is also a suggestion that despite regular Champions League football, Arsenal are no longer a favoured destination for most top players. Jamie Vardy rejected a chance to join them earlier in the summer, and Riyad Mahrez was also wanted by the Gunners before signing a new contract with Leicester.

However, the Arsenal boss is refusing to blame such a theory, and revealed some of his ex-stars are keen to return to the club, which he feels shows that the Emirates is still an attractive destination for players.

On Arsenal’s failure to attract top players, the Frenchman said in a press conference: “There are plenty of players who want to join us.

“Even the players who left us, 99.95% of them want to come back, so I don’t think attracting players is a problem for us.”

With a loss in their opening game against Liverpool, Wenger is aware that his side need a win at Leicester on Saturday to calm down agitating fans, who are clamouring for more action from their club in the market.
