Arsene Wenger has refused to confirm whether Arsenal had an interest in signing Riyad Mahrez from Leicester City this summer.

Last season’s PFA Player of the Year calmed all the speculation surrounding his future at Leicester by signing a new four-year deal with the Premier League champions.

Mahrez played a pivotal role in Leicester surprising everyone and winning the league title last season, and Claudio Ranieri has been desperate to hold on to the Algerian.

There was furious speculation all summer that Arsenal are very much interested in snaring the winger away from Leicester, and they also reportedly slapped in bids for him earlier this month.

However, Wenger refused to confirm whether the club were snubbed by another Leicester player, following Jamie Vardy rejecting to join Arsenal earlier in the summer.

On whether Arsenal had any real interest in Mahrez, the Arsenal boss said in a press conference: “I don’t want to speak individually about players.”

Mahrez and Vardy are expected to line up for Leicester against their summer suitors Arsenal this Saturday at the King Power Stadium.
