Leeds United have officially confirmed the signing of Swedish defender Pontus Jansson on a season-long loan deal and the centre-back has explained he needs to be playing regular football.

Jansson arrives at Elland Road from Italian outfit Torino and gives head coach Garry Monk extra options in the heart of defence.

The deal contains a purchase option, which it has been claimed will automatically kick in if he manages 20 games for the Whites in the current campaign.

Jansson says he is pleased to join the Championship outfit and he told LUTV: "It feels really good to be here.

"I heard about three or four days ago that Leeds were interested and I spoke to the coaches", the Swede continued.

Jansson explained he is looking to play the regular first team football which eluded him in Italy with Torino, while he is well aware of the size of Leeds as a club, with Sweden boasting a sizeable fan base.

"I need to play football regularly and I know that Leeds are a big club with big ambitions – they also have a lot of fans in Sweden, so I’m really happy to be here."

Torino snapped Jansson up from Swedish giants Malmo in 2014, but the defender failed to nail down a regular spot in the side over the course of his two years at the club.
