New Leeds United defender Pontus Jansson has revealed that he started out as a striker, which allows him to be more cultured on the ball.

The Yorkshire giants, earlier this morning, confirmed the signature of the Swede defender from Torino on loan, with an option to make the move permanent at a later date.

The 25-year-old Swede, who played for Malmo but struggled to get minutes at Torino during his two-season stay, is looking forward to making an impact at Elland Road.

An aggressive defender, with a turn of pace, Jansson admits that he is comfortable with possession of the ball because of his early years playing as a striker.

On his attributes as a defender, Jansson told LUTV: “I am aggressive, I always give 100 per cent to the team I play for, and I will give more than 100 per cent for Leeds United.

“I am technical; I have been playing as a defender for the last five years, before that I was a striker, so I am good with the ball, I am fast.

“I always give 100 per cent for the team, that’s me.”

He made 128 appearances for Malmo before joining Torino in 2014, but struggled to become a regular member of the squad in Turin.

Jansson has also earned eight international caps for Sweden, and is expected to add experience to the Leeds backline this season.
