Leeds United new boy Pontus Jansson has been on Whites boss Garry Monk’s radar since his days as Swansea City manager.

The Yorkshire giants confirmed earlier this morning that they have completed a deal to sign the 25-year-defender from Torino on a season-long loan deal.

Torino have revealed that Leeds have an option to sign the player on a permanent deal, and it has been claimed that it will automatically kick in if he plays 20 games this season.

Leeds assistant Pep Clotet worked with the Swede during their time together at Malmo, and is said to have played a key role in bringing Jansson to Elland Road.

However, Leeds boss Monk has also been keen on the defender for a long time as according to Swedish daily Kvallsposten, the 37-year-old has been keeping an eye on the Swede since his days as Swansea manager.

Monk has been stressing the importance of adding more experience to his Leeds squad this month, and will be hoping that Jansson, a Swedish international, provides some nous to the club’s backline.

The Swede could make his debut for the club when Leeds take on Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough this Saturday.
