Rangers manager Mark Warburton says his side are close to making one or two additions and simply cannot afford to stand still.

The former Brentford boss has been busy in the summer transfer window so far, but the Gers are not finished yet, with Preston North End striker Joe Garner set to be their latest signing.

They are also putting former Arsenal defender Philippe Senderos through his paces in training this week, although Aston Villa centre-back Joleon Lescott is mooted as the Gers' first choice.

Warburton admits that deals are close and insisted that the moment Rangers stop looking to improve they are dead.

"We are making progress on one or two targets and hopefully we are very close on one or two", he told a press conference.

"The moment we stop moving forward we are dead in the water", Warburton warned.

"We will continue to try and add to the quality of the squad."

And the Rangers boss explained his thinking on cover at centre-back and up front.

"We need four centre-halves and four centre forwards. We have Danny [Wilson], Rob [Kiernan] and Clint [Hill] at centre back, and Martyn [Waghorn], Kenny [Miller] and Joe [Dodoo] at center forward so far."

Rangers welcome Motherwell to Ibrox on Saturday, before then heading to Kilmarnock the following Friday.
