Christian Benteke is unlikely to be snapped up by Crystal Palace in time to make his debut against Tottenham Hotspur tomorrow.

The Eagles have thrashed out a fee with Liverpool for the Belgium international, who was quickly declared surplus to requirements last term when Jurgen Klopp arrived at the club.

Now Palace boss Alan Pardew is taking Benteke to Selhurst Park, but the striker is more likely to make his debut in the club's EFL Cup clash against Blackpool on Tuesday night than against Spurs.

According to Belgian daily Het Laaste Nieuws, Benteke is currently undergoing his Palace medical and is not likely to be registered in time to play Spurs.

The news will be a boost for Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino, as his side prepare to host Crystal Palace at White Hart Lane tomorrow.

Palace with Benteke leading the line could have been a different proposition for Pochettino's men to cope with.

Now it appears that, fitness permitting, Benteke's first Premier League game for his new club could come at home against Bournemouth on Saturday 27th August.
