Arsenal have loaned Costa Rica international forward Joel Campbell to Sporting Lisbon.

Campbell is linking up with the Portuguese side on loan for the entire 2016/17 campaign, where he will bid to enjoy regular first team football.

The 24-year-old made 30 appearances in all competitions for Arsenal last term, hitting the back of the net on four occasions, but Gunners boss Arsene Wenger believes Campbell's development would be better served in Portugal.

His loan still needs to receive international clearance, which is not expected to be an issue.

Sporting Lisbon can offer Campbell the chance to play in the Champions League next season, a competition he also tasted on another loan spell, at Olympiacos.
