Chelsea have slapped in an offer for AC Milan defender Alessio Romagnoli, but the Rossoneri consider the Italy Under-21 international unsellable.

The Blues are in the market for a defender this summer, but have so far seen their attempts to recruit one from Italy bear no fruit, with Napoli consistently knocking back their offers for Kalidou Koulibaly.

It seems the Senegal defender is not the only Serie A defender on their shortlist as it has emerged Antonio Conte is keen to snare Italy Under-21 international Romagnoli from AC Milan in the last period of the window.

And according to Italian broadcaster Sky Italia, the west Londoners have made a concrete move by placing a €35m offer on AC Milan’s table for the 21-year-old Italian defender.

However, the Milanese giants are expected to knock back the Chelsea offer for Romagnoli, as they consider the young defender unsellable in the current transfer window.

AC Milan paid a hefty fee of €25m for the defender to snare him away from Roma last summer, and are in no mood to allow one of Italy’s young defensive talents to leave.

A product of the Roma academy, the 21-year-old has 78 Serie A appearances under his belt, and has been capped 13 times by the Italy Under-21s.

He has a contract until 2020 with AC Milan.
