Leeds United head coach Garry Monk has dubbed Liam Bridcutt exceptional due to his performance against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.

The Whites only completed the signing of the defensive midfielder last week and Monk wasted no time in slotting him into the starting eleven for the Championship game at Hillsborough.

And Leeds produced their best performance of the season as they came away with a 2-0 win over their Yorkshire rivals.

Monk was especially pleased with Bridcutt's contribution and lauded the midfielder.

He told a press conference: "He did great. It was his first 90 minutes.

"And considering he hadn't played a lot of football in pre-season I thought he did exceptionally well."

Leeds take a break from Championship action on Tuesday night when they travel to Luton for an EFL Cup tie, looking to keep their momentum intact.

It remains to be seen whether Monk will choose to hand Bridcutt a second game in quick succession.

Luton put another Championship side, in the shape of Aston Villa, out of the EFL Cup in the last round.
