Manchester United have announced that young full-back Cameron Borthwick-Jackson has joined Championship outfit Wolverhampton Wanderers on a season-long loan deal.

The 19-year-old defender broke into the first team under former manager Louis van Gaal last season, and made 14 senior appearances when the club were suffering an injury crisis.

While under new manager Jose Mourinho he signed a fresh four-year contract, the full-back was told that he won’t be getting much playing time this season and the club have opted to loan him out.

Borthwick-Jackson appeared in the Premier League 2 for Manchester United Under-23s against Leicester last week, but the club feel he needs to play more senior football this season for further development.

A statement from the club on Twitter read: “Cameron Borthwick-Jackson has joined Wolves on a season-long loan deal.

New Wolves boss Walter Zenga has been keen to take the Manchester United defender under his wing this season, and the youngster will be hoping to improve under the Italian’s tutelage in the second tier of English football.

Borthwick-Jackson is hopeful of playing more senior football at Molineux this season, before he returns to Old Trafford at the end of the season.
