Everton have been knocked back by Lyon winger Rachid Ghezzal, but the door may be slightly ajar for West Ham United if they mount another offensive for the Algeria international.

Ghezzal has struggled to agree a new contract with Lyon, who are reluctant to play him while he has not extended a deal which expires next summer.

Everton recently made a bid for the 24-year-old and also offered him a lucrative contract to move to Merseyside, but Ghezzal has knocked back the Toffees, informing the club's officials and coaching staff, according to French sports daily L'Equipe.

Ghezzal does not want to leave Lyon to join a club not in European competition and at the present moment favours an extension with Les Gones.

West Ham, who are in European competition this season, made an offer for the winger earlier this month.

However, Lyon's president explained that he had turned down the Hammers' proposal.

The Premier League side though may spy an opportunity with Everton out of the picture and due to the fact they can offer Ghezzal the European football he craves.
