Ajax are expected to hold talks with Newcastle United in the next few days for the signature of goalkeeper Tim Krul.

The Dutch giants are on the verge of losing Jasper Cillessen to Barcelona in the final stretch of the transfer window, and have identified Krul as the man to take up the mantle from the Netherlands number one.

Krul suffered a serious knee injury in October last year, and while he is fit to play, the goalkeeper wants to continue in a top league in order to regain his place in the Dutch national team.

The Dutchman doesn’t have the appetite to play in the Championship, and according to De Telegraaf, Ajax are set to sit down for talks with Newcastle for his signature.

There is speculation that Newcastle are unwilling to sell the player, but are ready to loan him out for one season after agreeing a new contract with the Dutch goalkeeper in the coming days.
